ANZAC Day at ANZAC Cottage
ANZAC Day at ANZAC Cottage enables visitors to honour our war veterans. It offers the opportunity to tour the Cottage, hear fascinating stories, browse the temporary exhibitions, read the children's writing, enjoy our tribute to the "NZ" in ANZAC, and participate in the evocative Sunset Service.
ANZAC Cottage, a symbol of unity and support, was built in a single day, February 1916, by a devoted community. Their collective effort was a heartfelt tribute to those who fought the ‘good fight’ at Gallipoli. This imaginative project, built in challenging times, embodies the care and devotion those ‘back home’ felt for those fighting a horrific war, often with fatal consequences.
The opportunity to honour our servicemen and women in such a poignant location, echoing the stories of those who endured conflict in the many wars involving our nation, brings us closer to understanding and appreciating the sacrifices made by those during the conflict and those waiting at home.
