Building the Federal Capital Commission Houses of Canberra
Tour both sides of the Lake in the comfort of a coach the early and now heritage listed precincts of Canberra.
We will mark the centenary of the Federal Capital Commission’s contribution to building the affectionally called FCC-houses in the suburbs of Ainslie, Reid, Braddon, Barton, Forrest, Kingston and Griffith.
The FCC under the leadership of John Sulman (later knighted) had a herculean task to prepare for the transfer of 1,100 Australian public service officers and their families to Australia’s new national capital city in a short space of time.
View the full range of architectural styles and stunning streetscapes that demonstrate the Garden City, American City Beautiful movement and how well these dwellings have stood the test of time. Morning tea provided.
