Democracy! Digging for the vote.

What drove the Ovens goldfield miners and their campaign for the right to vote 18 months before the Eureka Rebellion near Ballarat?

People flocked to the Victoria from Europe, America and China in the 1850s in the search for gold. The Europeans especially saw hope in a new land – away from the old rule of monarchies and systems of government that failed to represent the interests of working people. Hear from heritage specialist Deborah Kemp and Beechworth History and Heritage chair Jamie Kronborg about the Ovens goldfield miners’ campaign to secure the right to vote.
