Open Day at East Perth Cemeteries at Martellup

Enjoy free entry to East Perth Cemeteries at Martellup on Sunday 4 May as part of the Australian Heritage Festival.

East Perth Cemeteries at Martellup sits on Whadjuk Nyoongar Country in an area known as Martellup, on a sandy hill overlooking Western Australia’s capital city. Officially closed since 1899, this was the site of the first colonial burial ground in Perth in 1829.

Enjoy a special opportunity to wander the grounds and unearth a treasure trove of hidden stories of lives lived and lost, from the wealthy and prominent to the poor or unknown.

While there are no official tours today, our knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions.
