Anzac Memorial Unearthed

Anzac Memorial Unearthed reveals three remarkable collections not previously shown to the public including the Rex Money collection, the TB Association and Kuring-Gai Chase Sphinx collection and new research recently uncovered in Zimbabwe about Captain Alfred Shout VC MC.

Come and hear three remarkable presentations about some of the treasures in our collection that have recently been unearthed. Did you know that Sydney has its very own Sphinx for example? The Sphinx in Kuring-Gai Chase National Park is one of Australia’s more unusual war memorials. The Anzac Memorial collection includes a range of documents spanning plans, illustrations, media reactions to the memorial and promotional booklets from the 1930s. Archived for over 90 years it is time that they are unearthed. Colonel Dr Rex Money was one of Sydney’s leading neurosurgeons who served in both the First and Second World Wars. A huge collection of his wartime artefacts were recently donated to the Anzac Memorial which this presentation will showcase. Our third presentation uncovers recent research about Captain Alf Shout VC MC whose memorial plaque, once mounted on a public building in Darlington now adorns the walls in our permanent gallery.
