Button, Bricks & Other Bits

Discover the hidden treasures of Port Macquarie’s past at our unique exhibition, Buttons, Bricks & Other Bits. From everyday items like buttons and bricks to rare historical relics, each piece tells a story of our town's rich history and the people who lived here.

This exhibition showcases and highlights artefacts discovered and uncovered during archaeological excavations in the Port Macquarie CBD, with a particular focus on the Clarence Street area. Each piece tells a story about the daily lives of local people. Unlike today, there was no weekly garbage collection. Domestic rubbish was thrown on site into pits or used as compost.

Join us as we explore the layers of time that once rested beneath our feet and the forgotten gems from our past.
