Environmental Timescale: an English Garden (Weston Park ACT)

Discover stories embedded within the landscape on this walking tour through the Weston Park English Garden. Explore the transformation of this landscape under the influence of pioneer horticulturist Thomas Charles George Weston between 1913 and 1926 within a 200-year journey through time.

This is a unique environmental heritage one-hour tour led by Dr Stephen Utick, horticulturist and Rotary District Environmental Coordinator, supported by the Rotary Club of Canberra and Friends of Weston Park Nursery Heritage. During the tour, Dr Utick showcases how remnant plants can serve as ‘living antiques’ opening up past histories of the landscape. The tour concludes with the encroaching shadow of invasive plants.

Some 200 years of landscape history are covered in one hour. There are two such tours, both on Sunday 4 May 2025, the first commencing at 2.00pm and the second at 3.30pm. Gather at the sandwich board signage located near the English Garden entrance in the carpark at the rear of the Yarralumla Heritage Nursery (also near the Oaks Brasserie and Yarralumla Gallery).

This event is already listed as part of the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival Unearthed, 2025. Entry: $5 Adults, 10 Family, children free.
