Fossick for Fossils

Step back 400 million years and uncover treasures in an ancient seabed! Join us for Fossick for Fossils, a hands-on adventure perfect for families, explorers, and palaeontology enthusiasts.

Embark on a self-drive guided tour to two fossil beds on private property just 10km from Yass. These extraordinary sites, part of the Silurian period, date back 443–419 million years and were first recorded by explorer-geologist Paul Edmund de Strzelecki and made famous by Alfred Shearsby.

Explore, fossick, and chat with our knowledgeable guides about your discoveries.

Tours will meet at Coronation Park, behind the Yass Valley Information Centre at 1.30pm.

For safety purposes, please note that this activity takes place on a working cattle farm with uneven, grassy, and rocky terrain. Sturdy footwear, sun protection, water and a moderate level of fitness are required.
