Laser cut jewellery from the archives (16+years)

Unearth historical images from the City of Sydney Archives to create laser-cut jewellery at Darling Square Library. Guided by expert facilitators, you will personalise earrings or pendants with archival photos of Sydney’s architecture and your design will be laser-cut to create wearable jewellery.

This event is offered as part of Australian Heritage Festival 2025. The theme is ‘Unearthed’, looking at bringing to light lesser-known histories and stories, and unearthing knowledge. Take this opportunity to unearth the City Archives’ vast collection of historical images. Then connect with your creativity to produce your own jewellery!

Led by experienced facilitators in the Darling Square Library makerspace, this workshop is a great introduction to laser-cut jewellery and the City of Sydney Archives. You’ll be guided through how to access historical images from the City Archives to personalise your own laser-cut jewellery design. We will be inspired by the beautiful architectural features of Sydney landmarks, tile work, stained glass and stone masonry.

What you’ll learn:

– How to access photographs in the City of Sydney Archives
– Basic photo editing using Adobe Photoshop (No prior experience necessary)
– Basic laser cutting skills

Suitable for adults 16+ years of age.
