Join Maitland-born Dr Michael Belcher and Largs-born author Mrs Helen Russell, whose forebears go back to the 1820s, as we take a walk around the historic village of Largs.
Sited on one of the most interesting geological and indigenous areas in the Hunter, Largs was home to Wonnarua family groups thousands of years before Europeans, initially cedar getters, arrived. It straddles the boundaries of three of the most important settler Estates in the Hunter (Dunmore, Phoenix Park and Bolwarra).
Once a farming village servicing the numerous tenants and small landholders who took up land when the Estates were subdivided, progress bypassed Largs leaving behind a simple village which still resonates with the history of Maitland’s agricultural past.
Ticket includes a delicious homemade afternoon tea of finger food, slices, tea and coffee, hosted at local home and catered by the talented Grossmann Catering Team.
Note: please take care when walking, tour may traverse uneven street surfaces.
