Artist statement
Growing up near the sea at Clovelly, in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, my first love was the ocean and seashore. I studied art and design at school and University. My life took a very different direction, but I never lost my desire to observe nature, be inspired by it and create art from it.
When I moved to the Blue Mountains 35 years ago, I developed a great love for plants, flowers and birds in all their intricate beauty. One of my favourite things is searching through books, photos and the internet for new plants and birds to draw.
I do my best to observe nature and capture what I see in my initial pencil drawings. I then create designs from which I make the final pen drawings, turning natural form into patterns and shapes. Each unique design seems to flow onto the paper, almost on its own. I then transfer my designs to my computer where I do all the colouring to create the final images for my art prints and other products.
I love creating art that brings joy into other people’s lives.
